AMERICAN DREAMS #3
towards the end of last year Tim Stolinski of Band of Bards got in touch to ask if i’d like to do a variant for AMERICAN DREAMS, their turn-of-the-century tale of a jewish sweatshop worker-turned superpowered vigilante. the team were FANTASTIC to work with and i had a whole lot of fun coming up with concepts for this one;
pre-order from the BAND OF BARDS ONLINE STORE and a massive congratulations to writer Daniel Kalban who’s issue #1 was a white-hot sell out!
CATFIGHT #2
the globe-trotting, cat-burgling caper CAT FIGHT continues with issue #2 rolling out into previews! here's a little peak at what’s coming up for issue #3 (hint- it’s more felix in a state of ever-increasing peril)
DEATH DROP #1
Scout have updated their store with the webstore exclusive variant i had the EXTREME pleasure of doing for our first issue… so if you fancy some neo-noir city vibes you can grab that HERE.
David and I also had the chance to talk to absolute champion of the comic's scene,
on a recent live. my mind’s still slightly scrambled about actually being mic side on a show that i regularly listen to but Blake’s a fantastic conversationalist and it was a super fun chat.someone (me) mmmmight have got a bit too carried away booking podcasts so david and i are going to be appearing on a BUNCH more shows. best to keep an eye on my twitter and instagram for updates on those! to wet your appetite here’s a little look of the first few pages of #1…
*obligatory plug for pre-orders via previews world. also i cannot tell you how incredibly exciting it was to get these pages back from lucas and seeing the absolute 24-carat cherry on the cake that is his lettering. chef’s kiss 👌

DOWNLANDS
i am incredibly excited about Norm Konyu’s upcoming graphic novel DOWNLANDS. Norm’s art is quite unlike anything else- super graphic while super rich with texture and atmospheric lighting. man can also WRITE. i picked up a copy of his first book, THE JUNCTION back at thought bubble 2021 and it’s a haunting read uncovering what happened to a missing boy who re-appears 12 years after disappearing but hasn’t aged a day.
It sounds like similar mysterious things are a-foot in DOWNLANDS which will be campaigning on both KICKSTARTER and CROWDFUNDR shortly;
“After the sudden death of his twin sister, 14 year old James Reynolds becomes obsessed with her tale of a black hound, a folkloric creature that is regarded as a portent of death. Enlisting the aid of his elderly neighbour, who the local children call ‘The Witch’, he delves into the centuries of village history, folklore, and ghosts, until he uncovers a deeper secret beyond his darkest nightmares, beyond the sight of most, and beyond the mortal veil.”
absolutely can’t wait to snap this up and best of luck to norm in getting it funded!
HOLLAND ANDREWS
one of my goal for this year is to GET BACK INTO GOING TO GIGS. i was actually gearing up to make good on this resolution back round february 2020… but i don’t think you need me to tell yo how well that plan went ololol.
i caught Holland Andrews supporting Son Lux (who you probably know best from he Everything Everywhere All At Once score) and oh my stars and garters.
people. if they are ever performing live anywhere near you YOU MUST GO. I IMPLORE YOU.
i must confess, i was sssslightly bemused when the first song kicked off with bird call impersonations getting looped into some very sparse spoken-word… but things pretty quickly escalated into this absolutely mad kinetic, one-person operatic wall of sound (complete with opera, of course). At the point the clarinet came out, i’m pretty sure the two Very Cool Youths who’s been in the queue behind me waxing lyrical about the finely-tuned cocktail of drugs they were on brains’ promptly exploded.
it was. an experience. legitimately one of the best live shows i’ve gone to???
what about you? are you reading/watching anything good or got some gig tickets burning a hole in your internet-wallet? let us know in the comments!
